Week 1 Assignment
Let's get this moving!
I trust you all have your books. If you don't - get a move on!
After you get over the shock and awe of the college textbook-like look and feel, I trust you'll find that we're going to get a ton out of this study.
For week 1 work through these items: 1) Familiarize yourself with the book. 2) Go to www.kenboa.org and get a feel for Ken's work. 3) Read through the Preface and Introduction sections (probably a couple of times). 4) Post comments to the blog on what your initial thoughts are on what we're about to embark upon (you can use the questions on pagwe 24 as a guide).

And one more thing - make sure you're praying and asking God to reveal to you what He would like you to do, know and become - i.e., how He would have you "Conformed"...
ReplyDeleteThis study looks very interesting. I definitely have my own comfort zone in my Christian walk. I think it will be extremely beneficial to get a better understanding of these different facets of the Christian life and to challenge myself with these things that I am unfamiliar with.
ReplyDeleteI like rules and structure so the Disciplined Spirituality facet appeals the most to me. Ken Boa is spot on, though, when he says that the challenge is striking the right balance between expressing obedience through personal discipline while at the same time radically depending on God. I struggle with this balance and I am interested in what he has to say about it.
The Holistic Spirituality is also another big area I have difficulty with. I have a strong tendency to compartmentalize my life and it is easy for me to simply relegate my relationship with God to the compartment of my quiet times, Bible studies, and church visits. As Ken points out, the challenge is for me to make God Lord of my entire life.
Holistic Spirituality and Process Spirituality are the two facets I am probably the least comfortable with. "Being" rather than "doing" and the Holy Spirit are not things I am particularly familiar with. I like hard and fast, clearly defined stuff, while these topics seem more soft and ambiguous. They will probably be the areas I will be stretched the most in, which should be good.
I think the study will be very challenging and really stretch me, so I am looking forward to it.
I am always impressed when the Lord takes an evolutionist (and assume athiest) and does a 180 in their lives - a.k.a. the lives of Ken and Paul. It almost makes their story and arguments for Christ all the more powerful becuase they have lived both sides. I especially like the fact that Boa's material isn't "Christian lite". There is real meaning and substance to his material.
ReplyDeleteI'm like Steve in that I gravitate towards Disciplined Spirituality - because "I" can mark off what "I" did for God. This coupled with the Process Spirituality can really get me caught up into ruts because I can get in what Ken says being a "human doing rather than a human being".
I am interested in digging into the Paradigm, Motivated and Spirit-filled Spirituality. I need to start checking my assumptions in life and seeing life through His eyes. I need to figure out how I move from spiritual-process to spiritual transformation. I hate that I can have a good devotion in the morning and then not remember to talk to God one time throughout my day. I need to change that.
